New Jersey’s Spanish-speaking car buyers

New Jersey has one of the most diverse Spanish-speaking populations in the country, with Dominican, Puerto Rican, Colombian, Ecuadorian, Peruvian, Mexican and Cuban communities across Hudson, Essex, Passaic, Union and Middlesex counties and beyond. Many customers are bilingual, but plenty prefer to discuss payments, trade values and repairs in Spanish. Call Contact Confirm works every lead and call in English or Spanish, whichever the customer prefers. See bilingual BDC.

New Jersey’s Do Not Call law

On top of the federal TCPA and the National Do Not Call Registry, New Jersey has its own Do Not Call law (N.J.S.A. 56:8-119 and following), enforced by the Division of Consumer Affairs. In general terms, it:

  • prohibits unsolicited sales calls between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m., local time at the customer’s location,
  • prohibits unsolicited sales calls to numbers on the state’s no-call list,
  • requires the caller, within the first 30 seconds, to give their name, the name and phone number of the business they’re calling for, and the purpose of the call (tightened in 2023),
  • prohibits blocking caller ID, and
  • requires telemarketers to register with the Division of Consumer Affairs.

The law also includes an exception for follow-up a customer affirmatively requested, by phone or through a website, which is relevant to many dealership leads. Our team honors opt-outs immediately and respects your CRM’s do-not-contact flags. This is general information, not legal advice. Your dealership’s attorney should review how these rules apply to your store.
